First the good news. Ronald Munson's 'Intervention and Reflection: Basic Issues in Bioethics' is about as complete an anthology in the field of bioethics as one is going to find. There is no major topic in the field that it fails to cover in depth, both through Munson's own extensive commentary and through the many articles he chooses from other authors. I have used it as the text in bioethics courses I have taught and both the students and I have found it quite helpful. However, its lack of basic proofreading is inexcusable in a text published by Wadsworth, an otherwise reputable publisher of academic material. On page after page one finds errors that would have been caught through a cursory reading. A few of the more egregious examples: On page 49 a patient introduced as Prosenjit Boddar becomes 'Foddar' five lines down and 'Poddar' at the beginning of the next paragraph. On page 124 'Paul Geisinger' turns into 'Raul' at the conclusion of the same paragraph in which he is called 'Paul.' In the following paragraph we read of viral particles that are destroyed 'within a month to sue weeks.' (What are sue weeks?) On page 143 the text speaks of 'abstract more issues' (instead of 'moral issues,' I guess). These examples of sloppy (or perhaps no) proofreading are multiplied many times over in the 900 plus pages of the book. One expects far more than this for the outrageous price this book commands. Certainly the $150.00 plus price tag per copy leaves some spare change for Wadsworth to hire a competent copy editor. Ronald Munson, who gives every indication from his writings of being a knowledgeable bioethicist, should be embarrassed that a book with such sloppy editing has come out under his name.

It is appalling how many typographical errors this book contains! It is absolutely sloppy. For instance, I am currently reading about that oh-so-famous book by Aldous Huxley 'The Brace New World'! There is also that infamous medical experiment in Tuskegee committed against African 'Ameircans'. This is supposed to be an educational text about ethics. How ethical is it to charge this kind of money for a book the publishers couldn't even be bothered to run a spell-check program on?

This textbook is very comprehensive, I will definitely refer to it frequently. I especially appreciate Part IV - Foundations of Bioethics and the website connected to the publisher as well as related medical websites. As a nurse (RN), this is a topic that enters into the formulation of patient care, and I frequently find myself in conflict with administration when it comes to patiet care..they are focused on expediency and cost. I am concerned with restoration and recovery. The two are not neccessarily in apposition, a happy compromise can be attained if cooler and more persuasive heads prevail. This book will help me to present insightful arguments on behalf of my patients.

Used this book for a medical ethics class as a student. It discusses some really tough issues, makes you think about some controversial topics very differently. It is very well written and is not nearly as dry as some other philosophical books.
Excellent and well-written / printing errors corrected now
By Elias Baumgartenon Aug 07, 2014
I've used this text in my Medical Ethics classes but was at first dissuaded to use this new edition when I saw the comments about all the printing errors. I checked my instructor's edition, examination copy, and was appalled by the errors. BUT--the good news--there is a new printing that corrects the errors. (I called the publisher twice to see if there was any correction, and they didn't know and thought I had the latest edition. Only when I contacted the author did I learn about the second printing.) Anyway, the content is excellent, probably the best text of medical ethics out there. What distinguishes it, and what inclines me not just to use online articles, is Munson's framing of the issues in his introduction to each section and his well-written case studies. Munson's writing is lively and engaging. The 'concise edition' of this book contains those excellent sections written by Munson, minus the articles by other authors.
Needed this for my class 'Ethics for healthcare' {aying close to 200 dollars was out of the question. Amazon had the best price to rent so i did. Came in decent shape and gave me enough time to use it for class and to send it back. Asus eeetop et1602c drivers. Overall a good experience and will rent my books from now on. The book was a required text for my class. It is interesting reading and very informative. Windows xp sp3 danskin. I purchased it used, like new condition. However, the book was a bit more worn than I would have expected. There were tabs placed on 5-6 of the pages and when I tried to remove them, they also removed the wording in areas that are now unreadable. The book is serving it's purpose and I am able to use it so, I guess that's the main point!
You will get A LOT out of this book. Stories are well written. Opposing opinions represented. You will find yourself reading more than is required.
I am a college student currently using this book for class. There are still topographical errors but they can be over looked but unfortunately the ommission of a glossary makes this an impossible book to study. If you're a student having to purchase this book, good luck to you.
I would have given this book at least 4 stars, if not for the many typographical and spelling errors. The editors did a terrible job reviewing this. There are so many errors it results in very frustrated reading at times. The content of this book overall isn't bad and is quite interesting. But the abundance of errors really distracts from the overall content.
Very good book on ethics. For each portion there is an argument for and against. It also has real cases and arguments about what happened or what should have happened. Definitely one of the most interesting textbooks I've been assigned.
Unfortunately this was the chosen textbook for a course my child was taking. The author not only uses very specious arguments (including the typical a rat is a boy is a pig type of thiking) he's obviously in love with his own voice or was being paid by the word. Every concept requires a long chain of points that are usually unrelated to both each other as well as reality. Neither of us, both college educated with my spouse having both Master's and Doctorate degrees were able to easily decipher this well enough to give our child assistance in understanding the key concepts the author expected to convey. My sympathy to anyone unlucky enough to be forced to read this drivel!
This textbook is incredibly out of date, it reads like a 1990's text, versus a 2012 publication. Munson profiles such atrocities as the Tuskegee syphilis experiment and the screening of pregnant women in South Carolina for cocaine and amphetamines, clearly missing the racial component. The fact that African American men and women, respectively, were being targeted. It was not a war on poverty, but a racial cleansing. His own blind privilege hampers his telling of such important medical dilemmas as AIDS/HIV homophobia, he propagates the idea that it is a white gay men
Glad I bought it instead of renting, this book is worth keeping.

Very good book which I had to have for class. I didn't agree with everything but I'm not the most agreeable person. This book is worthy of a read even if you don't need it for class.
Intervention And Reflection 7th Edition
Concise, thought provoking, really good explanations on theories. I like the plethora of case studies.
It was in good condition and not a bad read at times. Especially if you might be interested in the topics of Medical Ethics.
great price for my class. Book was in good condition when I received it
